Palm Beach to alter drone ordinance to comply with federal, state laws

Drones were one of the hottest Christmas gifts in the country in 2015, and Palm Beach officials wanted to move quickly to get regulations in place.
But in hindsight, they moved a little bit too fast with their 2016 law, Deputy Town Manager Jay Boodheshwar said at the Ordinances, Regulations and Standards meeting Thursday.

Four parts of the Palm Beach ordinance did not comply with the Federal Aviation Administration’s guidelines, including a ban on drone flights without a permit from the town, according to a letter to the town from an FAA attorney earlier this year.

In short, the FAA regulates the airspace — not the town.
